Q.I want to adopt AI, but I'm worried about security risks like data leaks
FE Search AI only handles published posts. Only public content is sent to the AI provider — private posts, drafts, and password-protected posts are excluded. Author information linked to posts is limited to nicknames, and authors whose login credential is an email address are excluded from search. In addition, if a visitor's question happens to contain personal information (such as an email address or phone number), it is masked before being sent to the AI — preventing accidental disclosure of personal information to the AI and keeping it out of system logs.
Q.Where is conversation history stored?
It is stored in the visitor's browser session storage — a privacy-conscious design. Closing the browser clears the history. An option is also available for site operators to retain conversation content for a set period to improve the system.
Q.What do I need to get started?
A WordPress 6.6+ environment running PHP 7.4+, plus an API key for the AI provider you want to use. Generate the key in your AI provider's dashboard and register it in the plugin settings (BYOK). AI provider usage fees are billed separately.
Q.Which AI models are supported?
Models from OpenAI (GPT), Anthropic (Claude), and Google (Gemini) are supported. With Pro, you can also connect local LLMs such as Ollama or internal AI platforms that expose an OpenAI-compatible API. The model is fixed in the Free version (default: GPT-5.4 mini); Pro lets you choose freely to match your use case and budget.
Q.Do I need to set up a vector database?
No. With keyword search (BM25) alone, you can start using it right after installation. We recommend combining vector search for higher answer accuracy. To use hybrid search, which includes vector search, you need to configure a connection to Qdrant, a database specialized for vector search.
Q.What can it search?
Content stored in posts, pages, and custom post types is searchable. Sync your content from the admin screen to build the search index (a process that optimizes content for search). To improve search accuracy, you can choose which related data — categories, dates, authors, and more — to include in the synced data. With Pro, custom field content can also be included, so details like price, size, weight, and model numbers become searchable for more precise queries.
